This Sunday I will be doing the message at church and I am excited! God has been speaking to both Courtney and I about evaluating our lives and looking towards the future, so since it's the last Sunday of the year we will reflect on what's happened in 2007 and New Year Resolutions in our individual lives for 2008. As I prepare I think through the different situations and places in life people will be at. I think about how I can best illustrate and explain the different points that I believe God wants to make to everyone. I ask God how He wants to use a story from the Old Testament about Abram, Sarai and Hagar to inspire, influence and impact people's lives at the end of the year 2007.
This is the second time I've done a message for a Sunday Experience at Life Church. I must admit that in many ways I feel inadequate and overwhelmed by the idea. However, I've also seen how God can use me because He is more then enough for what needs to be done.
Today I read this quote by Tony Dungy about his dad who was a teacher.
My dad believed you can't teach only one way with only one syllabus, because while some students might get it, others won't. Students have different ways of learning and connecting, and it's the teacher's job to make sure they are all doing so. In the same way, coaches must help players earn an A - that is, learn the material we're presenting - by communicating in a way that makes sense for each individual player.
My goal and prayer for Sunday is that God will use me to help people earn an A, by learning and applying the lessons from the Bible in their lives as we all reflect on 2007 and look forward to 2008.
